Name: Andrew Paul Loughran

I decided that perhaps the about me page was getting a little dreary, especially considering that it was starting to get a few hits.

I currently work for a company called Zednax where I am a systems administrator and designer. It’s good work at the moment, with a steep learning curve. I’m also an associate in Axiom Tech which is essentially a vehicle for all our open source work. It was with Axiom Tech that I was able to get employment at Zednax.

I’m quite a sporty person, and my favourite sport is Rugby Union. I just get so excited about the games, and it tugs on my heartstrings more than any other sport. Now I’ve moved up North I’m hoping to head to a few more Rugby League games too. I’m into my cricket, though appreciate the longer form of the game rather than the current slogfests that appear to be happening all over.

I enjoy going out and drinking wherever, as long as there’s either decent music or sport on - and decent ale. My favourite beer is probably St. Peter’s Fruit Beer (Grapefruit) which I got in a selection pack from www.beersofeurope.co.uk. If you’re considering somewhere to get a selection of beer from - this is your one shop stop.

I’ve always enjoyed woodwork and ‘resistant materials,’ and have designed and built a few bits and bobs over the last few years (though fewer recently). I use Gentoo on my desktop and Ubuntu on my laptop. At work I use CentOS on the servers, and privately I use Ubuntu again. I am certified in two sections of the Zimbra VAR exams.

I want to continue to work at both the high level and low level of open source development, by raising awareness that FLOSS is more that just a “viable alternative” for many organisations - as well as private companies in the long run.
