Blu-ray vs HD-DVD… Game Over.
Format wars… who needs them?
Not I. I have an xbox360 – but should I get a HD-DVD drive for it?
I’m sure once one format reaches perceived critical mass then the support for the other will drop. I’m going to be a little irresponsible as I’m not fully aware of the technical deficiencies/advantages of the one format over the other.. but I like the box on the blu-ray disc more than the HD-DVD – and as it seems to be the way the format war is going I’m going to lend my voice to the blu-ray camp.
It’s not that I’m at all informed on the issue – it’s that I believe it’s best to get the format out of the door as fast as possible and make it a dominant format. We can then progress.
Please join me in supporting blu-ray to end the format war before anyone gets hurt

It won’t matter, both will be dead quicker than you can say “fibre optic cable”.
It does seem however that in the current minute and a half which has just passed, Blu Ray does have the lead because it does indeed have a nice blue box and plenty of people idiotic enough to buy PS3s. The major studios are lending it their support. HD-DVD drives are a fraction of the price yet still people are buying Blu Rays for the nice blue boxes. They’re probably all Americans.
There isn’t much difference between Blu-ray and HD-DVD, they both use similar HD video encoding and blue-laser technology.
The main difference is how they encrypt the content. I think that Blu-ray has a few more layers of encryption than HD-DVD.
Either way both methods will end up being circumvented, and until them I’m steering well clear.
Ciaran – is that hex code (that circulated around the blogosphere about 5 months ago) related to circumventing the HD-DVD and blu-ray encryption?
